Feels like im back in Japan. Everything was superb. The chicken broth was so creamy and rich. The prices are so reasonable compared to other ramen places in HK as well. Amazing! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Tori Mama — A Hidden Ramen Izakaya Gem on Whitty Street Tucked away on Whitty Street, Tori Mama is a cosy ramen izakaya that instantly caught my eye with its charming chicken illustration on the glass door and warm, inviting interior. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between casual and authentic Japanese, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal or a post-work bite. The star of the meal was definitely the chicken paitan ramen. The broth was incredibly creamy and rich, with a beautiful pale ivory colour that hinted at the hours of slow simmering behind it — deeply savoury, full of natural chicken sweetness, and surprisingly clean on the palate without feeling heavy. The bowl came generously loaded with toppings: tender slices of chashu with that gorgeous pink centre, juicy poached chicken that was perfectly moist, a flavour-soaked ajitama with a silky yolk, crisp shredded leek for a refreshing bite, and a tall stack of premium nori that added a lovely toasty seaweed aroma. The thin, springy noodles soaked up the broth beautifully and delivered the perfect slurp with every mouthful. The fried wings on the side were another standout. Golden brown and shatteringly crispy on the outside, the meat inside stayed juicy and tender right down to the bone, generously dusted with toasted sesame, garlic bits, and a hint of chilli for that addictive crunch. A squeeze of fresh calamansi cut through the richness perfectly and brought everything to life — a brilliant pairing with the creamy ramen. Overall, Tori Mama delivers seriously impressive chicken-based ramen with thoughtful sides and a relaxed izakaya vibe. If you're a fan of paitan-style broths or just looking for a comforting, well-executed bowl of ramen in the area, this place is absolutely worth seeking out. This restaurant is often praised for its chicken ramen, and for good reason—the broth is rich, well-executed, and among the better versions in Hong Kong. The grilled chicken is another highlight, featuring juicy meat and nicely crisped skin. However, the dining experience does not quite match the quality of the food. The atmosphere can feel unwelcoming, particularly for solo diners, and service comes across as selective. During my visit, attempts at friendly interaction were ignored, while familiar guests appeared to receive noticeably warmer treatment and even off-menu extras. While the food is undeniably strong, consistency in service would significantly improve the overall experience.
