Best value katsu. Have to go queue up super early - lined up at 7:30am for the 9am queue registration. Was 3rd. Get the cheese cause they sell out midday. Order and pay on tablet and pick up at the counter. Bigbacked 2-3 plates per person. During this trip to Korea, finally visiting Jeju Island made me feel that, more than any local specialty, I had to visit Yeondon. It wasn’t just about eating tonkatsu—it was about visiting the original flagship location of the Yeondon brand itself. Although the restaurant opens at 12:00 pm, we arrived around 10:00 am to register for the waiting list and received number #92. One major challenge for foreign visitors is that the reservation system requires a Korean phone number, which makes booking extremely difficult for international travelers. Thankfully, with help from someone in our group, we were able to secure our spot, and our estimated dining time was around 2:00 pm. We spent our waiting time visiting the Bonte Museum and returned to Yeondon around 1:30 pm. After parking and waiting briefly, we were seated almost exactly at 2:00 pm. Orders and payment were completed through the kiosks installed at each table, and within ten minutes, our food was ready. We were told that the cheese tonkatsu is only available to guests with a waiting number of 70 or earlier, so unfortunately, that option was not available to us. Instead, we ordered the pork tenderloin (ansim) tonkatsu, the pork loin (deungsim) tonkatsu, and a cheese cutlet ball—and we were more than satisfied with our choices. Since most of the dining process is self-service, it felt a bit surprising at first. However, considering how relentlessly busy the restaurant is throughout the day, it quickly made sense. I was also genuinely pleased to catch a glimpse of the owner working in the kitchen behind the glass. As widely rumored, the food was excellent—and what truly surprised me was how affordable it was, given both the quality and the restaurant’s reputation. Knowing how much pressure and stress must come with such fame, I sincerely wish the owner continued strength and success.
