i have been to the original racine and recall the experience oozed a french flair, intimate and food was delightful. i recently returned for my baddies’ birthday and boy were we disappointed. it was south east asian french executed poorly - flavours lacked balance, food served warm to cold and overall the dishes lacked finesse. the additional charge required for their “signature pigeon” is strange and not worth it. desserts were ok and the saviour for the night. Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2 Meal type: Dinner

I came here two years ago, but this visit was a huge letdown. They added way too many Chinese elements and completely lost that delicate French touch. To make it worse, everything had this weird lemongrass-heavy, Chinese flavor profile that just felt off. And it is weird that signature bread and butter not served, instead of as a giveaway. Totally not able the original taste of the bread! Sad. Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

A very enjoyable visit to Racines, which has recently undergone a change in chef. Any concerns about continuity of quality can be put to rest — the kitchen continues to produce food that is well crafted, flavourful, and satisfying. The new chef has clearly settled in well, and the standard remains commendably high. One of the most enjoyable aspects of dining at Racines is the option to sit at the bar counter, where you have a direct and unobstructed view of the chefs at work. Watching the kitchen in action adds a wonderful sense of theatre to the experience and makes for a more engaging and personal meal. If you have the opportunity, it is well worth requesting a bar seat. The menu offers a thoughtful selection of dishes that feel considered and well balanced. The food is consistently good — nothing feels out of place, and the cooking demonstrates a clear sense of craft and attention to detail. The service throughout was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being intrusive — exactly the right tone for this style of restaurant. Racines remains a strong and reliable choice in Hong Kong's competitive dining scene. A restaurant we will certainly return to.
