[An Evening in Daehak-ro] ‘Dudu’ — A Makgeolli Haven Worth Revisiting Just a few days ago, I happened to stumble upon a cozy little spot while walking through Daehak-ro. The performance I attended had just ended, and I was starting to feel that familiar evening hunger. That’s when I noticed a large earthenware jar-shaped sign at the corner of an alley — it simply read ‘Dudu’. I stepped in, with no expectations but I completely fell in love. Over 50 Kinds of Makgeolli from All Over Korea — A Paradise for Rice Wine Lovers The first thing I saw when I walked in was the wall lined with makgeolli bottles. From fruity, sweet varieties to traditional, earthy brews — more than 50 kinds in total! I told the staff I liked something soft and slightly sweet, and they recommended a blueberry makgeolli. The aroma was beautiful, and the finish smooth and refreshing. This Gamja-jeon Is Far From Ordinary What surprised me most was the gamja-jeon (potato pancake). At first, I assumed it would be the usual thin, crispy kind. But when it came out, my eyes widened. It was thick, round, almost like a potato meatball. The outside was golden and crispy, while the inside was chewy and tender, packed with rich potato flavor. Paired with the makgeolli, it was perfection. A Quiet, Warm Atmosphere — A Place You Just Want to Stay In The vibe was another highlight. Soft lighting, wooden interiors, mellow music, and the quiet hum of conversations at neighboring tables. Whether you’re sipping alone, on a date, or catching up with friends — it’s the kind of place you naturally want to linger in. I was there solo that night, but I found myself thinking, “Next time, I have to bring someone special here.” ⸻ Wandering into that little alley in Daehak-ro without a plan, I found a place that became the warmest moment of my day: ‘Dudu’.
