We visited two weeks ago to celebrate a special occasion with my family. Overall, the experience was pleasant, but there were a few disappointing moments that prevented it from feeling truly special. The highlights were definitely the truffle pasta, the freshly baked sourdough, and the whipped mackerel dip—all were delicious and well executed. Unfortunately, the service fell short. I reminded the staff several times about a surprise dessert for the celebration, but it was still forgotten. At the end of the meal, we were simply asked whether we wanted to order dessert, which was disappointing given the repeated reminders. There were also a couple of issues with the food. The coffee panna cotta seemed under-set, with a grainy texture and an unpleasant consistency at the bottom (as shown in photos). The Murray cod was fresh, but it had a noticeable fishy taste that wasn’t to our liking. Overall, while there were some excellent dishes, the service oversight and a few inconsistencies in the food meant the experience didn’t quite match the expectations for a fine dining restaurant, especially for a special celebration. Fantastic to hear that the tarama, tuna tartar, homemade pappardelle and the lemon yellow chicken all delivered on taste; and were washed down with excellent choice of wines

This was my third visit at Carmela, and probably my favourite! The bread and dips are always a must order, but the mains were the standouts for me. The fish and pork chop schnitzel were perfect, in flavour and size, great for sharing. The service was warm and attentive, they took care of our table very well and always topped up our water glasses! Can’t wait to go back to try more dishes.
