Authentic Teochew cuisine. We had the cold crab which was excellent; one of the best we've had. The pomfret was very fresh and steamed perfectly. We also had the braised duck which was good but we would have preferred the sauce to be less starchy and a little sweet. As for vegetables, we had the sambal kangkong. It's spicy, so if you don't like spicy, ask for the garlic version. Overall a good meal and service was very good. There were 3 of us, but we ordered enough for 4.... that's why the per head cost was a little high. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $70–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

Fragrant Garden is the only Teochew restaurant I know that offers Teochew-style steamed halibut, which is done very well. Their other dishes are equally authentic, and their orh nee (yam paste dessert) is quite remarkable, containing everything: pumpkin, ginko nuts, bits of water chestnut, and the unique fried shallots plus the unmissable pork lard!
