best view for a morning fresh shake straight from fruits. I recommend passion fruit or orange juice. Really refreshing. Welcoming place, friendly people and just 60 baht a fresh shake. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Tucked away on the left-hand side of the yuppy FUGA Beach Club is HEP's, a humble local "hole" perched on the northern-end rocks of Patong Beach that serves simple Halal Thai fare. Although its mainly Thai menu is in English, Russian and Chinese, HEP's is simple, unadulterated and unapologetic, with the nicest Thai owner, chef and attendants -- the nicest people -- I've ever met in Phuket. For 570 THB, we enjoyed a thirst quenching young coconut, 2 small bottles of Singha Soda Water, a delicious Pad See Eaw Gai (Fried Hor Fun with Chicken), a mildly spiced Som Tum Thai (Green Papaya Salad), 6 tasty grilled medium-sized Tiger Prawns with pepper and a mild Gaeng Keow Wan Gai (Green Chicken Curry Soup). If we had the same food and drinks next door in FUGA Beach Club or Baan Rim Pha -- yes, it's all very high-end, probably serving food that's out of this world and aplomb, and come with amazing views of the Andaman -- we'd probably end up spending at least 5,000 THB, complete with attitude and fake smiles. Personally, HEP's a perfect spot to relax (I could see myself working on my laptop whilst enjoying a cuppa coffee gazing into the Andaman Sea), for a simple lunch, drinks and smokes, and gazing out into the Andaman Sea, some beach rocks, establishments lined along Kalim Beach and Kamala Beach, without having to pay through your nose for the pleasure.
