I recently visited Kaiwa Japanese Handroll Bar located in the trendy EmSphere mall. While the venue has some high points, the overall experience was a bit of a mixed bag. Here is the breakdown: The Atmosphere & Service: The restaurant boasts a stylish, modern vibe and the service is excellent, the staff are attentive and professional. However, be mindful of where you sit. I was initially seated right next to the speakers, and the volume was overwhelmingly loud. Thankfully, the staff were kind enough to accommodate a table change when I asked. This place gets busy! I highly recommend booking a table in advance as it can get fully booked, especially on weekends. The Food: This is where the experience fell slightly short for me. When compared to other famous handroll specialized shops, Kaiwa feels quite expensive for what you actually get. The Seaweed: For a handroll bar, the seaweed is the star. Unfortunately, I found the seaweed here lacked that signature toasted aroma and wasn’t as crispy as I expected. Taste vs. Price: The flavors were decent, but the portion sizes and overall quality didn't quite justify the premium price tag. It didn't feel as "value-for-money" as its competitors. The Saving Grace: Happy Hour If you want to try it out without breaking the bank, look for their Buy 1 Get 1 Free promotion. Time: 17:00 – 20:00 Offer: Valid on select handroll menus.
