Found this place almost by accident, and it ended up being the best drink I had in Thailand. Demon’s Murmur plays the speakeasy card properly: dark, low-lit, a little sinister in the best way. It earns the atmosphere instead of just decorating for it. Chiang Mai’s secret-bar scene is getting crowded, and this one sits at the top of it. You’re seated with water and chips before you even order. Sounds minor. It isn’t. It sets the pace for the whole session. The bar work is serious mixology, precise and unhurried, and both menus hold up: the Signatures are genuinely inventive, the Classics are built with a balance most places skip. No filler on either list. We tried: Oolong Cider, Lotus Flower, Whisky Sour & Numprik. Special mention to the music. Someone there actually curates that playlist, and it makes the room. If you’re in Chiang Mai and you care about what’s in your glass, go out of your way for this one. 10/10. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: ฿600–800

Service and atmosphere are great. Very attractive place, dark, great lighting, good AC. They serve free excellent dried vegetables chips which are great. What is less than I expected was the level of the drinks. Perhaps I’m too used to Japan’s high quality mixology bars, but I felt that the 2 original drinks I ordered were 1) good enough for just one or two small sips and then gone 2) Not really great tasting and not that original or interesting. I proceeded with ordering a Manhattan cocktail and this was better, although far from memorable. Still, thanks to the friendly service and attractive surroundings, it was a pleasant experience in all. Just not a thrilling tasting experience. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
