I was strolling back to my hotel while my wife ran a quick errand and somehow, I stumbled into what I can only describe as a hidden gem of Kyoto. 楽食 is now officially my favorite restaurant in Japan. The food? Absolutely incredible. I ordered the salmon and scallop sashimi and genuinely almost cried from how delicious it was. I’ve dined at plenty of upscale omakase spots, but this place just gets it right. The quality, the flavor, the price :) it’s almost unbelievable. And the intimate open kitchen concept adds a whole new layer of appreciation. You can see the care, passion, and pride the chef/owners pour into every single dish. Important note: it’s cash only and the menu is in Japanese but don’t let that stop you. The staff is warm, welcoming, and clearly love what they do. I loved it so much I ran back to my wife, told her all about it, and we returned together that same night for dinner. Every dish we had was an 11/10. It’s a small, intimate space and was fully booked when we arrived, but the owners kindly found a spot for us. If you’re visiting, try to make a reservation ahead of time because this place deserves its reputation as one of Kyoto’s go-to local spots. Thank you to the amazing chef/owners for your hospitality and unforgettable food. You’ll forever be one of our favorite memories from our honeymoon in Kyoto. We can’t wait to return.
