オーチャードにあったときから大好きなお店。以前よりは高い食材を使ったメニューが増えたものの以前リーズナブルでとてもおいしい。居酒屋のように気軽に飲み食いするのに最適。. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Order type: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $30–40

Tried the papa's signature Zha Jiang noodles, which had a unique presentation that made it stand out. The noodles with the minced pork sauce were flavourful and enjoyable. The boiled cabbage, shrimp and pork dumplings were my favourite. The filling was juicy and paired really well with the ginger vinegar dip, though it would be even better with more shredded ginger. Ended the meal with the red bean pancake, served piping hot and crispy with a nicely balanced filling. Tried the chicken soup noodles with the cabbage, shrimp and pork dumplings, it was comforting and filling. Staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. Would be back to try the other dishes. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

There’s a special kind of joy in finding a favourite food haunt again — having first discovered Hua Yi Dumpling at International Building, then patronising their revamped Joo Chiat outlet, it felt almost serendipitous to stumble upon them once more in their new home at Orchid Hotel. I was sad when I heard their Joo Chiat outlet closed. So when the bus passed by Orchid Hotel last week - my eyes lit up when I saw “Hua Yi” sign and I did a Google search to confirm if it was the same shop. The move hasn’t changed what matters most. The dumplings are still as comforting and satisfying as I remembered — freshly made, generously filled, and full of honest, no-frills flavour. Each bite brings back that familiar sense of warmth, the kind that reminds you why you became a loyal customer in the first place. This is even when I did the takeaway menu today. Definitely will be even better if u do the dine-in The new location feels like a fresh chapter rather than a reinvention. It’s reassuring to see a beloved shop continue its journey while staying true to its roots. For long-time fans and first-timers alike, finding Hua Yi again feels like reconnecting with an old friend — one who still knows exactly how to make you happy with a plate of dumplings. Gambate!!!
